United Artists had signed a movie deal with the Beatles for three films. The first of these, A Hard Day's Night, came out as a soundtrack album on June 26, 1964. UA thus had the rights to the soundtrack, so that Capitol was not able to release the record. A Hard Day's Night went 4x platinum in the US and to gold in Canada. It topped Billboards' chart for 14 week, longer than any other album that came out in 1964. EMI subsequently acquired UA's rights, and so Capitol reissued the album in 1980 on its label. The US version of this sound track has not been issued in CD format.
