Meet The Beatles!
Meet the Beatles was Capitol Records' toe in the water concerning the British band that was creating a craze across the North American continent. It was released on January 20, 1964, just 10 days after Vee-Jay had released Introducing … The Beatles. It ultimately went to 5x platinum in the US and to platinum in Canada. Even though it says "first album" on the jacket, it was the second US LP of the group.
Capitol started a practice of rearranging the songs as they appeared on the UK albums, often holding back some of them, and adding other. Capitol had released I Want to Hold Your Hand in December of 1963, and it was placed as opening track. This Boy and I Saw Her Standing There were also added to the listing. The record shares the same cover photo as the second UK Beatles album, With the Beatles and includes several of the songs on that record. The following songs from the UK album were not included on the US version, and were added in the track listing for the next LP release in the US, The Beatles' Second Album: You Really Got A Hold On Me, Devil in Her Heart, Money (That's What I Want), Please Mister Postman and Roll Over Beethoven
