This album is a reissue of the well-selling Rock 'n' Roll Music originally released in 1976 as two budget LPs in what is widely regarded as another naked marketing scheme. The reissue was released in both the U.S. and the U.K. (US LP: Capitol SN-16020; UK LP: EMI/Music for Pleasure MFP 50506).

Rock 'n' Roll Music, Vol. 1 contains stereo remixes George Martin rather than the fake stereo issued in the U.K. on the original 1976 double-album.

The reissue contains new, and better, album art of the band on their arrival in America. The U.S. version features a crowd in the background while the U.K. version doesn't.

For tracks, see the original release of Rock 'n' Roll Music. This is contains the cuts from Sides 1 & 2.
