Review | The Beatles Stereo Box Set | 11 weeks 3 days ago
When the original 13 Beatles albums released in CD in 1987, the sounds were not as good and clear at that time. Finally, after years of waiting, the Beatles Stereo Box Set has sound a lot better, stronger, sharper, clearer, and louder than the original. The first four album Please Please Me, With...

It's not sure it was written in 6/8 time. Take 2 was in 6/8 and take 3 in 4/4, that's true. Alan W. Pollack suggests that it could have been written in 4/4 but take 2 was a last minut tryout in 6/8 that was abonded afterwards. (http://www.icce.rug.nl/~soundscapes/DATABASES/AWP/ibb.shtml) Pollack...

Magical Mystery Tour is the best of their psychedelic stuff, I'd say. Much weirder than Sgt. Pepper.

I heard this song in 1964 and now in 2012 I still find it to be a world I go to and sing it in my soul when things these days are just going so fast and nobody seems to GIVE TO BUILDING A WORLD WITH LOVE1

This would be impossible unless Brian Wilsom had a radio that played songs from the future. Good Vibrations was released as a single in October of 1966. The Beatled did not start recording Strawberry Fields until November, and it wasn't released until February of 1967.

I'm sorry but this is a brilliant song, it's simple yet meaningful, no one has written anything that touches this in the past 20 years! I'll never visit this website again!

The Beach Boys were and are the single greatest rock band in history. No other band made such brilliant music. They were superior singers to the Beatles bar none. Brian Wilson' songwriting was head above shoulders over anything Lennon & McCartney did. The Beach Boys were the Beatles inspiration...

In 1963 at the age of 12 I DESPISED the Beatles (jelousy LOL) as they were taking all the girls ( I got some of them LOL). Well, in 65 a girl bought 5 tickets (3 bucks a piece) for a Beatles/Dave Clarke Five gig at Cobo Hall (Detroit) & while you could not hear a lot I started softening my hard...

I just rewatched the ending of Disneys Jungle Book, and I'm still amazed how similar the vulture's voices are to the Beatles voices. I do think it's to bad they turned down the opportunity to be in the cartoon, even if it wasn't really their image to be in a cartoon. Has anyone else noticed this in...

I agree with you completely, except for one minor thing. "The Beach Boys led the production race and Good Vibrations set the standard for modular recording/tape edits/use of unconventional instrumentation/studio experimentation that songs like Strawberry Fields would later aim for." I saw an...

I would just like to clarify that Smile was not the Beach Boy's attempt to top Sgt Pepper. Smile was Brian's attempt to top Pet Sounds. Brian started recording Smile way before the Beatles went into Abbey Road to record Sgt. Pepper. Also, Brian didn't cancel Smile because he heard recordings from...

It is no coincidence that the Beach Boys Smile album was cancelled a few weeks after Paul McCartney played a pre-release tape of a few tracks of Sgt Pepper to Brian Wilson. It was cancelled a few weeks before the release of Sgt Pepper. A hell of a lot of work had been done and it was not far off...

The Beach Boys were knocked out by Rubber Soul. Pet Sounds was influenced by Rubber Soul and they clearly aimed to better it. McCartney liked certain bass lines in Pet Sounds. The influence on Lennon is negligible. I doubt Lennon and Harrison went to Abbey Rd thinking they were going to oust Pet...

I have to wholeheartedly agree with John Lennon on this one. Billy J. Kramer and the Dakotas' version was pretty weak. They were pretty weak generally though they did have a few songs that still work, I like "I'm in Love".

You probably have to have a couple of things going for you to make the connection between BYARM and Brian Epstein. First, it helps if you were alive (and old enough) when the single was first released in mono in 1967. Also, and sadly, archives from music magazines from that era are not available on...

Review | Hold Me Tight | 1 year 2 weeks ago
I happen to like the song, but I can certainly see why The Beatles had their reservations. It's structurally very simple and very formulamatic though there was no intro to speak of. The bridges were vocally a little shaky which is surprising because McCartney's voice is typically as strong as it...

I also think this a somewhat hidden gem on the two record output officially entitled 'The Beatles.' That it received little airplay compared to some of the songs picked by studio execs or the group itself (????) to promote the 'White Album' was, to me, perplexing. I think it one of Harrison's best...

Review | Let It Be or Let It Be... Naked? | 1 year 21 weeks ago
Though call, but I'm on McCartney's side on this one, the 1970 version was overproduced, I like the more natural sound on the 2003 Album. The highlights of this latter are The long and winding road, I me mine and Across the universe; these three really shine in their Naked mixes.

I'll be the first to admit that the Beach Boys put out a lot of mediocre material in order to "pad out albums" due to industry pressures to make an average of four albums a year in the early years. Even by the standards of the time, that was pretty excessive. Imagine Paul McCartney (by himself)...

It's not overwhelmingly so, but it might be a hair better than 2 or 3 other contenders. There are hardly any bad songs on it at all. It's a way better album than Abbey Rd. which I have always considered overrated (maybe their 6th best album)
