An interesting aspect of The Beatles is that the band's major creative elements during the majority of their history - John Lennon and Paul McCartney - credited all of their songs to "Lennon/McCartney" whether or not the other member of the world's most famous songwriting duo actually had any input. While George Harrison's songs where credited to "George Harrison" and Ringo's Starr's contributions to "Richard Starkey" (Ringo's real name), it can be difficult to tell which Beatle was the creative force behind songs credited to "Lennon/McCartney". Along with Bob Dylan and Jim Morrison, John Lennon is regarded as one of the master lyricists in popular music. Though McCartney and Harrison at times wrote brilliant lyrics (McCartney stood out as the band's best musical composer), it was Lennon who really excelled in this regard with such masterpieces as "Across the Universe", "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", "I Am the Walrus", "Norwegian Wood", "Strawberry Fields Forever" "Nowhere Man" and dozens more classic lyrics that at times raise to the level of poetry.
