Crying, Waiting, Hoping was written by Buddy Holly and performed by the Beatles in their early performance sets. On July 16, 1963 the group performed this number for the BBC radio show Pop! Go the Beatles, and the track eventually was released on the album, Live at the BBC. The Beatles had also performed this song earlier (January 1, 1962) for the (unsuccessful) Decca audition. George sings lead vocals on the song and he reproduces exactly the guitar solo played in the original Buddy Holly recording by Don Arnone. During the Get Back recording sessions in 1969 at the Apple Studios, the Beatles attempted a calmer version of the song, but it was not released.

Crying, crying, waiting, waiting, hoping, hoping you'll come back

Buddy Holly

I don't know too much about Don's other work but his solos on the Holly tracks are superb. Thanks Don for leaving a great legacy.

Crying, Waiting, Hoping

This paragraph about the Beatles recording Buddy Holly's above mentioned song has a special place in my heart. My dad was a master guitarist named Don Arnone. He did the original recording, as stated, with Buddy Holly. Dad has been gone for five years now, so it warms my heart to see him given the credit for anything he had done. Anyone who would like to know more about his music and the artists he played with should go onto the web site Classic Jazz Guitars.com and put in his name. God Bless you Dad, and many thanks to my brother-in-law Ray Soto for bringing this Beatles site to my attention. I miss you Dad,
Love, Lynnie

Don Arnone

Don Arnone known as the founding father of the New York session scene played guitar on many tunes that are the soundtrack of our lives, from Buddy Holly to Quincy Jones. Don was involved with many commercial jingles and movie soundtracks like the Godfather. He influenced many guitarists including George Harrison of The Beatles. You can check out part of Don's story at http://www.classicjazzguitar.com/artists/artists_page.jsp?artist=68

The Don Arnone guitar solo

The Don Arnone guitar solo overdubbed on "Crying, waiting, hoping" is maybe the best I have heard on a pop record..and the others on the New york tracks are not bad either....congratulation..50 years after...!!!
