Got to Get You into My Life is a Paul McCartney song, which appeared first on the Revolver album in 1966. It was one of the first arrangements in which Paul employed orchestral brass. Ten years later, Got to Get You into My Life came out as a single in the US (with Helter Skelter on the b-side) and reached number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 -- the last Beatles song to chart in the US until Free as a Bird was released in 1995. Paul sang lead vocals on this song, which was recorded between April 7 and June 17, 1966 at Abbey Road. During recording, the song evolved considerably. The Anthology 2 record has a take from the first day's recording, which differs greatly from the final version on Revolver. A brass fanfare opens and closes the song. In 1967, the song received a Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). Though backing vocals were recorded, they were not included in the final mix. In Barry Miles' book on Paul McCartney, Paul is quoted as saying the song was about pot, not a person. Critics regard Paul's vocal performance of this song as his best in the Revolver album. A famous cover by Earth, Wind & Fire went to number 9 on the pop charts and number one on the R&B charts.
