The credits for I Just Don't Understand go to "Wilkin-Westberry." The ballad first appeared in 1961 on the debut album of Swedish singer and actress Ann-Margaret Ohlsson's, entitled Here She Is: Ann-Margaret. The Beatles covered the song in their early performance set, and on July 16, 1963, recorded a performance of the song for the BBC radio program, Pop! Go the Beatles, aired on August 20. In the Beatles version, John Lennon performs the vocals, backed up by Paul and George. Being a slow-ish song in a minor key, it was selected presumably as a change of pace from the up-tempo rock and roll being served up by the group in the year 1963. The Beatles never returned to the song to make a subsequent recording. The July 16 effort is available on the Live at the BBC album.
