It's For You
The Lennon-McCartney team composed It's For You, which was sung by Cilla Black in a recording made on July 2, 1964 in the Abbey Road studios with George Martin producing.
Paul was present when she recorded it, and decided then to write a second hit song for her. He then made a demo of the new song in June of 1964 for the artist and the producer to hear.
When Ms. Black recorded It's For You she had to contend with both Paul and John in the studio, in addition to George Martin, the producer, each advising on how to improve the next take. In spite of this high-powered consulting, the song did not perform as well as her first two hits. It's For You made the UK top 10, but stayed there only two weeks.
It's For You was released as a single on July 31, 1964 with He Won't Ask Me on the b-side.
