Love of the Loved
Love of the Loved was composed principally by Paul McCartney in the early days of the Beatles, but credited to Lennon/McCartney.
The group performed the song in their live act, and when it came time to make a recording for the Decca audition of January 1, 1962, manager Brian Epstein chose three original songs to be included: Love of the Loved, Like Dreamers Do, and Hello Little Girl.
The Decca audition was unsuccessful and The Beatles never returned to re-record this song.
Cilla Black, another pop artist signed by EMI, recorded Love of the Loved as her first single record, but it went no higher than number 35 in the UK charts.
The two other Lennon-McCartney originals from the Decca audition were preserved in the Anthology 1 release, but Love of the Loved was not included.
