Take Good Care of My Baby
The famous song-writing duo of Carole King (music) and Gerry Goffin (lyrics) came up with Take Good Care of My Baby, released in 1961 by Bobby Vee. It went to number 1 by the fall. Four months later, the Beatles performed it for their January 1, 1962 audition for Decca Records. (The song re-entered the US charts in 1968 with a version by Bobby Vinton.) In the Beatles version, George Harrison sings the lead. The bootleg from the Decca session has Pete Best on drums. Another bootleg from an August 1962 recording has also circulated. The Beatles did not record Take Good Care of My Baby for EMI, and it does not appear in any released compilation.
