The Hippy Hippy Shake
Chan Romero wrote and performed The Hippy Hippy Shake, a fad dance song released in 1959. It was covered by several artists (including the Beatles), but it never made it to number 1 in Australia, the UK, the US or Europe. The Beatles, as well as other Merseybeat bands, regularly performed the song in the early 1960's. It was recorded at the Star-Club in Hamburg in December of 1962, and five times more in 1963-64, all of them for the BBC. The one made on July 10, 1963 was included in the album, Live at the BBC. In December of that year, the "Swinging Blue Jeans," an English group, released it as a single. In the Beatles' version, Paul McCartney sang the lead. He referred to it as a song that "we used to do a long time ago at the Cavern."
